PETERSEN HOUSE, Planting & Garden Tea

Continuing Projects

Civic Development: Chairman: Jeanne Davis
An ongoing project of planting memorial and honorary trees in memory of deceased Garden Club members and distinguished members, recognized by the Board Members, as having given exceptional service to the Club over a period of at least 5 years.    Location and type of trees is determined in cooperation with the Department of Parks and Recreation, and the City of Tempe.

Tempe Town Lake Grove: Chairman: Lola White
The city of Tempe built the Garden Pavilion at the Tempe Center for the Arts with funds raised by the Club.  We continue to work with the City of Tempe with tree planting and placement of benches.

Scholarships:  Chairman:  Luanne Davis
To further the study of horticulture and related subjects by making donations to the Arizona Federation of Garden Clubs Scholarship Program

Penny Pines: The USDA Forest Service uses these donations to replant burnt or otherwise damaged trees in conjunction with federal funds.  Seedlings are replacements of trees native to that particular area of the forest. The Forest Services gives a Penny Pine certificate for each $68 contribution.

Library Donations:  Chairman: Lola White
To continue donating gardening books to the Tempe Public Library, a project since 1956.


Petersen House:  Chairmen: Irene Jacoby and Dolores Reyes. 
The Petersen House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Club members will work with the staff at Tempe Historical Museum to restore the flower gardens to their historic state.  The chairmen will recommend the activities and time schedule to the membership.

Rose Pruning At Mesa Community College:
Chairman: Irene Jacoby Pruning and deadheading the roses at The Rose Garden.

Yard-of-the-Month: Chairman: Linda Schuster
Tempe Garden Club's Yard-of-the-Month award will be given monthly from October through April to yards that display attractive and practical use of materials, in attaining good landscape design.  The Club's Yard-of-the-Month flag will be displayed in the winner's yard for a month, and a certificate of award will be presented to the homeowner in recognition of the award.

New Projects

"Golden Days":  Chairmen: Irene Jacoby, Dolores  Reyes
In support of a National Garden Clubs project, we will plant daffodils in October in our gardens.  In February, when they are blooming, we will have a Daffodil Show at Pyle Center.  We will then donate the daffodils to Pyle Center.

Go Green:  Chairman: Jeanne Davis
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.  The major focus will be conservation and recycling.  Please use your clothbags to carry your groceries home.
